Google has started offering real time search results for searches. If you try searching for “Copenhagen”, then you will find a search box like the image below that updates with the latest web results, comments and posts about the Copenhagen summit.

The results box is updated every couple of seconds with new results from Twitter or from blogs. It is worth keeping an eye on this change from Google. They said it is the beginning of the real time web.

A good article on what are the primary ranking factors for websites is here http://www.davechaffey.com/blog/seo/update-to-seomoz-seo-ranking-factors/ The sumary was that the following percentages were what was though the search engines placed most weight on:

24% Trust / Authority of domain name
22% Link popularity of specific page
20% Anchor text of external links
15% On page keyword use
7% Traffic and click through data
6% Social
5% Hosting and registration data

Also out of the on page factors title tags carry the most importance, followed by keyword frequency then headings like h1 and h2. The bottom of the list of on page factors was the meta name and keyword tags which are not used that much anymore. Plenty more information in the article.

I am working on the SEO for a site about Irish fine art prints called perquisites. We have changed the website to have a faster loading front page and changed the title and meta tags to reflect what the website is about. Working with different projects is always interesting and it will be interesting to see if we can get this website to rank higher on Google.

I found this tip about a tip to align the form text field and submit button it seems to work.

The new Google Chrome OS is an opertating system that is just for accessing the interenet. It is said to have a 7 second boot time and everything works through the browser, so everything is stored and runs online.  While not for everyone it does make sense for people who just want to use the internet with their laptop for example. Watch the video below.

When it comes to designing coming soon webpages you want to make sure that you have something up on the domian that looks professional but also do not want to spend too much time and money on something that will be replaced.

Smashing magazine have an article looking at various coming soon pages with some good examples. One thing that you may want to consider is having a signup for more information form, also a brief description about what is coming soon.

The points are:

1) Tell us what to expect.

2) Provide updates (email signup)
